Horizons...

I've been working on something for three or four days now, writing as I drive...fold laundry...sweep floors (wait, I don't sweep floors, do I?)...cook dinner.  Unfortunately, the only time I haven't been writing is at the laptop, the legal pad, or my journal.  It's aggravating but the words will be shared - I am certain.

Tonight, as I combed through old files and old postings, looking for something I needed, I happened across a random blog I'd posted at 5:46pm on December 29th, 2007.  It was aptly titled, The Horizon.

The Horizon

A friend asked me to tell you ten things I hope to do before I die.
Here we go...
10.  Inspire Someone.
9.  Share.
8.  Find my grace.
7.  Read the books written by my students.
6.   See the importance in the little things.
5.  Hang Ruth's paintings in a museum.
4.  Sing in a band.
3.  Love.
2.  Ride more roller coasters.
1.  The Horizon... I think it's time to open my eyes and take everything in.

... I wrote this two months after surviving -the lowest- moments of my entire life and just two weeks after meeting Ben.  I was still dangling somewhere in between loss and love.

I'd completely forgotten about this list but now that I've unearthed it, here's what I've learned:

10.  Inspire Someone... I do this every day and, it turns out, the inspiring bit is that I do all the things I do.
9.  Share... Every day, friends...every...single...day.  It's what makes me smile.
8.  Find my grace....I may never have grace but perhaps that -is- my grace?
7.  Read the books written by my students.
6.   See the importance in the little things... Yes! I finally got this.
5.  Hang Ruth's paintings in a museum...or on her sister's bedroom wall...or the refrigerator...or in my office.  I'm impressed that I hung them.
4.  Sing in a band. (I think we ought to forget that I used to sing - it's bad ya'll)  I did join a great barber shop group when I moved to Florida though...
3.  Love...Sigh, between Ben and Ruth and that sweet cheeked baby, I have found love and the ability to feel love and give love.  I will never doubt this again (I hope).
2.  Ride more roller coasters...Ruth loves roller coasters too!  We rode her first grown up roller coaster together last month.
1.  The Horizon... I think it's time to open my eyes and take everything in....Two weeks ago, on my way to work, I glanced behind me as I drove over the bridge (changing lanes) and caught a glimpse of the sunrise reflecting over the ocean.  It honestly took my breath...so much so that I pulled over to record the moment in the tiny pink book I carry everywhere.

That Thursday morning was life changing.  I remember smiling as I pulled my car over to the side of the parkway and enjoying the extra three or four minutes I took to enjoy the sun dancing on the water.  I also remember telling myself not to forget it because it's important to take time (from time to time) to stop and watch the sunrise.

I don't know about ya'll but I think I may need to start a new list.  It looks to me as though it may be time for me to expand my horizons just a bit.  ;)

Love,
me
